Did you know, 80% of people who make new year resolutions fail?As a matter of fact, 20% of resolutions fail within the first week of January1.  There are a few reasons why people fail to make progress with their resolutions:

  • No plan
  • Unrealistic goals
  • Working on goals alone
  • Developing poor habits
  • Setting goals which are not specific (i.e. losing x amount of weight in x amount of time)

If you are looking to achieve your new year resolutions once and for all, here are some of our tips to get you working towards a newer and healthier you in 2022:

  1. Track your food

Tracking is one of the best ways to keep you on track and hold yourself accountable. Whether you buy a notebook and keep a food journal, or use an app like the Kayam app, food tracking is a powerful tool to help you continually make progress towards your goals.

  1. Work with someone

A big problem faced by many people is the fact that they do too many things too quickly, and on their own. You’re much likelier to achieve your health and body goals when you work with a nutrition coach. Working with people means you’ll be held accountable and kept motivated through every step of your health journey.

  1. Learn why you’re eating

Learning what and how to eat is important. But learning WHY you eat is as important, if not, more important than the what and the how. When you identify food triggers and create healthy eating behaviours around such triggers, you’re better able to develop positive eating habits and improve your relationship with food. Doing so will help you create and maintain a healthy lifestyle consistently.

  1. Make small changes

Again, if you try to do too many things too quick, you’ll fail. Instead, aim to make small and simple changes to the way you eat. And if you’re trying to change your lifestyle, try not to change everything all at once, from your sleep, water intake, exercise and nutrition. Instead, focus on ONE priority of yours. For example, if you want to focus on your nutrition, only focus on that aspect, while ignoring everything else. But even when it comes to nutrition, what exactly do you want to focus on? Portion control? Consuming better quality food? Cutting out sugar? You need to narrow your focus, and then take things one step at a time.

Use these tips to commit your goals and welcome your new and improved you.
